3 Arrested, Firearms Seized in COMELEC Checkpoint in Zambo Sur


KUMALARANG, Zamboanga del Sur - On April 28, 2019 at about 03:00 o'clock dawn, elements of Charlie Company, 53rd IB, Philippine Army led by 1Lt Michael Bumidang, Commanding Officer, turn-over to Kumalarang MPS three male persons.

The three suspects were identified as:
Ryan Aribal Talara, 36 years old, resident of Barangay Colo, Molave, Zamboanga Del Sur;
Matan Gawol Gon, 37 years old, resident of Barangay Payungan Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay; and
Mark Sandalan Ata, 38 years old, Barangay Bolisong, Kumalarang, Zamboanga Del Sur.

The three suspects were arrested at COMELEC Checkpoint and three (3) units of firearm were confiscated from them described as one unit AK200R with Serial No. 500906, one unit Cal. 45 pistol (Colt MK IV) with Serial No.33445, and one unit KJ9 with Serial No. 247279.  

The firearms were seized inside the vehicle described as 4x4 Jeep during the checkpoint operation at National Highway, Barangay Bogayo, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur at about 10:30 in the evening of April 27, 2019.

Initial Investigation conducted by Kumalarang MPS revealed that above-named Philippine Army personnel conducted checkpoint at the unlighted area of said barangay purposely to intercept the above-described vehicle that was traveling from Barangay Gawil, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur to National Highway, Barangay Bogayo of same municipality based on the alleged report of strafe incident they received at the house of Punong Barangay Rey Cais of Barangay Gawil.

Upon reaching the National Highway of Barangay Bogayo, the Philippine Army personnel intercepted the vehicle and ordered its entire passenger (arrested persons) to go out and afterwards conducted an intensive search inside the vehicle and able to recover the above-describe firearms.

Investigation further disclosed that there was no strafe incident occurred to the house of Punong Barangay Rey Cais of Barangay Gawil, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

Arrested persons and seized firearms are now in the custody of Kumalarang MPS while appropriate charges are being prepared for filing in court.

Shooting Incident

KUMALARANG, Zamboanga del Sur (April 14, 2019) - Shooting incident transpired at the National Highway of Purok-4, Barangay Mahayahay, Kumalarang Zamboanga del Sur at about 6:30 PM of April 13, 2019, perpetrated by motorcycle riding in tandem unidentified suspects.

Police Brigadier Gen. Emmanuel Luis D Licup, PRO9 Director identified the victims as Eduardo Tayong Y Andalay, male, 42 years old, married, farmer and Janskie Tayong Y Andalay, male, single, 15 years old, student both are residents of Purok-4, Barangay Mahayahay, Kumalarang Zamboanga del Sur.

Initial investigation conducted disclosed that at about 6:30 in the evening of same date, both victims were onboard on a single motorcycle coming from Barangay Poblacion going to Barangay Mahayahay of Kumalarang, after selling pork lechon as one of their living, however upon reaching at the national highway particularly at adjacent area of Prk-4, Barangay Mahayahay, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

They were shot by motorcycle riding suspects from behind using caliber 45 pistol as determined by the recovered two (2) pieces of spent shells at the crime scene. 

Despite of the gunshot wound they sustained, both victims were able to run and escaped.

Eduardo Tayong Y Andalay sustained two (2) gunshot wounds; one (1) gunshot wound on left arm and one (1) gunshot wound on his left thigh while Janskie Tayong Y Andalay sustained one (1) gunshot wound on the left back portion of his body.

Both victims were shot by unidentified person who immediately escaped going to Barangay Pangi, Kumalarang, direction based on the statement of the residents thereat.

Victims were rushed at Kumalarang Rural Healt Unit, Brgy. Poblacion and later referred to Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Hospital, Dao, Pagadian City for further medication.

Kumalarang MPS conducted hot pursuit operations and investigations for possible identification and arrest of the fleeing suspects.

Motive of the incident is still to be determined.

1 peson killed in Shooting Incident

KUMALARANG, Zamboanga del Sur (April. 3, 2019) – One person was killed in Shooting incident transpired at the remote area of Purok Dumalian, Barangay Diplo, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur at about 9:30 PM of April 2, 2019.

Police Brigadier General Emmanuel Luis D Licup, PRO9 Regional Director identified the victim as Rodolfo Adriancen Y Banas, 43 years old, married farmer and resident of said place.

Investigation conducted disclosed that the victim with together his 40-year old wife Salome and 15 years old son and son in-law identified as Junard Macsa, 27 years old were having a conversation on the bench in their balcony when they were interrupted by three (3) successive shots of firearm that made them ran away quickly.

After a while, they noticed that the victim was already on the floor, lifeless and bleeding.

The victim sustained three (3) gunshot wounds; that resulted to his instantaneous death.

The suspects fled going to North-West direction based on the traces of footsteps at the back of their house.

Recovered at the crime scene was one (1) piece of fired slug of unknown caliber.

Meanwhile, Police Brigadier General Emmanuel Luis D Licup has ordered the Kumalarang Municipal Police Station to launch a manhunt operation against the fleeing suspects.
