3 Arrested, Firearms Seized in COMELEC Checkpoint in Zambo Sur


KUMALARANG, Zamboanga del Sur - On April 28, 2019 at about 03:00 o'clock dawn, elements of Charlie Company, 53rd IB, Philippine Army led by 1Lt Michael Bumidang, Commanding Officer, turn-over to Kumalarang MPS three male persons.

The three suspects were identified as:
Ryan Aribal Talara, 36 years old, resident of Barangay Colo, Molave, Zamboanga Del Sur;
Matan Gawol Gon, 37 years old, resident of Barangay Payungan Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay; and
Mark Sandalan Ata, 38 years old, Barangay Bolisong, Kumalarang, Zamboanga Del Sur.

The three suspects were arrested at COMELEC Checkpoint and three (3) units of firearm were confiscated from them described as one unit AK200R with Serial No. 500906, one unit Cal. 45 pistol (Colt MK IV) with Serial No.33445, and one unit KJ9 with Serial No. 247279.  

The firearms were seized inside the vehicle described as 4x4 Jeep during the checkpoint operation at National Highway, Barangay Bogayo, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur at about 10:30 in the evening of April 27, 2019.

Initial Investigation conducted by Kumalarang MPS revealed that above-named Philippine Army personnel conducted checkpoint at the unlighted area of said barangay purposely to intercept the above-described vehicle that was traveling from Barangay Gawil, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur to National Highway, Barangay Bogayo of same municipality based on the alleged report of strafe incident they received at the house of Punong Barangay Rey Cais of Barangay Gawil.

Upon reaching the National Highway of Barangay Bogayo, the Philippine Army personnel intercepted the vehicle and ordered its entire passenger (arrested persons) to go out and afterwards conducted an intensive search inside the vehicle and able to recover the above-describe firearms.

Investigation further disclosed that there was no strafe incident occurred to the house of Punong Barangay Rey Cais of Barangay Gawil, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

Arrested persons and seized firearms are now in the custody of Kumalarang MPS while appropriate charges are being prepared for filing in court.
